Blocking .ru URLs

If your site is anything like mine, you will be flooded with spam posts from .ru (Russian) websites. Heres how to use .htaccess to block these submissions by disallowing them to register.

Open your .htaccess

add the contents of the attached download to it.

  Block .ru (47.4 KiB, 690 hits)

This will block registrations from Russia.

  • Great idea on blocking that URL extension. Often than times than not people associated with that domain extension will be spammers for sure!

  • You can ban his URL, just click "Admin Link" for one of his submission, then click "Change Status" in there is an option to ban the URL.

    Make sure you have Antispam enabled in the Config Panel.
  • Thanks man! I didn't know that. When I click the admin it didnt have that option, but I didnt have the antispam enabled.
