BUMP it, FLOAT it or PAL it?

There is no shortage of places to submit your design work or tutorials. I’m talking about web design, graphics design, font design, poster design etc… These types of submissions in my opinion don’t seem to fare so well on the good old faithfuls like Digg or Mixx as they are geared toward a certain demographic, fellow designers.

So what are the options?  Let’s look at 3 of them now.

Design Bump:

designbump2

In their words:

DesignBump is a social media site dedicated to the design community. DesignBump’s homepage is made up from the most popular user submitted links as decided by the site’s community.

Design Bump is quite possible one of the best resources for design inspiration, tutorials and examples.  While not the most eye appealing site, it’s submissions are top quality and definitely worth submitting to.

Design Float:

One of the first sites of this kind is Design Float.  Upon launch it managed to get it’s icon and banner on almost all major blogs and sky rocketed to a high PageRank of 6 and the support of major bloggers.  When it launched I frequented the site daily.

Design Float

In their words:

Design Float is a social media site dedicated to the design industry.

While they do have support of major bloggers Design Float is far from dedicated.  They do have by far one of the best designs in this niche and have incorporated a blog.  If you are looking for a design tutorial this is a good starting spot, however, be prepared to wade through page upon page of spam and submissions that have nothing to do with design.

The owners have so much as abandoned the project and it shows.  An announcement bar tells the tale right away when they wish you happy holidays, looking past that, the enormous amount of spam turns you off.  Visit their blog and you see it hasn’t been updated since November 24, 2008.

Why is it so popular?  It’s high PageRank and it is a DoFollow, period.  While I hate to say it because I do not like to support a site that the owners themselvescan’t support, I would submit to it.

FAQ PAL:

The newbie of the three and admittedly my own.  FAQ PAL set out to be a large database of tutorials for designers, coders and surfers.  However, the majority of our submissions are design related.

FAQ PAL

In their words:

FAQ PAL is a website to find and submit tutorials for webmasters, developers, coders and surfers.

FAQ PAL does have a good design, and has also incorporated a blog.  You will find zero spam and no submission that isn’t related to the site’s niche.

FAQ PAL is a relatively new site, with a PageRank of 2 and is also a DoFollow site.  The site does lack support of big bloggers as it hasn’t spent the money to advertise.

If your looking for a bump in traffic, this probably isn’t the best place to submit right now, but the DoFollow tag does make it worth your while.

Conclusion:

If you are in this niche, submit to all three, but would rate Design Float in the basement as I cannot in my heart support a site that has turned it’s back on it’s supporters from day one and has allowed such a great resource to be polluted with spam.

Whether you use any of these or not, keep designing and creating those tutorials as your help and work benefits many greatly.

Which of these do you or have you used?
