Do You…Niche?

I have been visiting a lot of Pligg powered websites and the majority of them are niche based installs. At first I could see why, since there is already Digg, Mixx etc…, and most Pliggs will never compete with them, so stick to a niche.

But now I wonder if going that route is best. It really limits you to what you can submit. Depending on the niche, it could be really hard to build up a good sized database of links and editorials.

If your niche was SEO or Technology, then, you would have no problem finding members to submit content. But if your niche was cell phones, for example, I can’t see how your site would survive long. There would be no real traffic draw.

I believe it is better to offer a Pligg that has a wide variety of categories and topics as opposed to focusing on just one.

How is your Pligg, do you focus on one niche, or offer several topics for members to submit, read and vote on?

  • Wow! it looks interesting. I haven't had a pligg site yet, but I will soon create a new one.
  • God, I just wrote a big comment, but my computer crashed, and now my minds blank.
  • Haven't got a Pligg site myself, but I would guess survival of most niches would be possible.

It's all a question of promoting the site and reaching critical mass, so there are enough people visiting and using the site.
  • Super-Duper site! I am loving it!! Will come back again - taking you feeds also, Thanks.
