Is it just me or are we seeing more blog reviews about Cuil.com then anything else right now? After about 12 different blogs I had visited were talking about it, I decided I would visit Cuil.com and see what the raving was about.
After visiting Cuil.com, I still don’t see what people are so impressed with. There are so many things wrong with this new “search engine”, not my words theirs, that I had to do my own post.
Firstly, Cuil is pronounced “cool”, so I am told.
I personally dislike the columns of results per page, looks horrible and disorganized. They grab images from the respectie website and post it next to their title/description, not sure how they determine what image to place though.
I tried a search for Pliggs.com, it returned 149 results, the results mentioned Pliggs.com, but no where in the 149 results was one for this blog.
Other blogs have mentioned searches for famous people who have returned images of different people so I won’t even go into those.
Very disappointing that they put all this work into publicizing it and getting every blogger talking about it, that they forgot to actually finish their search engine and actually get a decent crawl done. Their crawlers name is Twiceler, whatever.
They claim to have indexed 120 billion pages so far, of which I’m guessing a fair number haven’t been indexed properly.
Thumbs down from me, for lack of decent serps, images that don’t match, 3 colum layout (ugh!), horrible for 2 ex Google employees, maybe theres a reason they are no longer with Google.
